Neil Armstrong and Marc Latham Linked in History

Hi, it’s Wolf Whistzer, intrepid dogged newshound at the Greenygrey. We were going to report an important anniversary at the Greenygrey this weekend, when there was an uncanny link created when Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, sadly passed away at the grand old age of 82.

Neil Armstrong and Marc Latham Linked in History

So, you may be wondering, what is the link between one of the most famous travellers in history and a truly great man, and Neil Armstrong… um, I mean one of the most famous men in history and a truly great man, and our favourite living hobo writer, Marc Latham?

Well, Neil Armstrong was born and lived in Ohio of course, and Marc Latham was to visit the state on his shoestring travels to all the populated continents of the world.

But that isn’t the main link we’ve uncovered here at Greenygrey News. Oh no, there is something much more interesting and uncanny.

August 25th and August 26th

The main link is that the great Neil Armstrong, whose famous words on the moon – “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” – will always be remembered amongst the great human quotes, passed away on the 25th anniversary of Marc Latham’s first steps on his global journey.

Yes, on 25th August, 1987, Marc took his first steps around the world when he set off hitch-hiking to Europe, and the next morning, a quarter-century ago, took his first steps outside the UK when he landed at Ostend in Belgium.

Marc’s first journey was kindly published by Chipmunka, and you can read the start of the journey on the kindle edition of the book on  Amazon.

We got in contact with Marc and asked him what he thought about our Armstrong-Latham link. Marc said he felt humbled, and inspired by Armstrong’s famous quote, he hoped that one day his journey’s first steps might be remembered as “one small step for a man, one giant leap for underclasskind”
